Avocados are a fruit that grow abundantly in hot, subtropical climates. They’re high in healthy monounsaturated fats, making them calorific, but eaten in moderation, they’re an excellent source of these good dietary fats. v

They’re also a good source of vitamins, including the antioxidant vitamins, vitamin A, C and E, and the mineral potassium. They also contain protein and some starchy carbohydrate, making them a very nutritious food, especially during times of convalescence.

The pulp of the avocado also has benefits when applied to the skin. It can encourage wound healing when used under a sterile gauze and prevent infectious bugs getting to the wound whilst it heals. It can also help relieve rashes and irritated skin. As a beauty product, avocado can smooth and nourish the skin, and can also soothe sunburnt skin.

Avocado oil makes a good neutral massage oil base too.
