Niaouli is closely related to two other oils – cajaput and tea tree. It’s distilled from the leaves of a large tree native to Australia and is a gentle, non-irritating oil. It’s odour is strongly medicinal and it has powerful antiseptic properties.
These antiseptic qualities mean that niaouli is effective at relieving the symptoms of colds, flus, nasal congestion and other respiratory conditions. Its also used to help treat cystitis and other urinary tract infections.
A few drops of niaouli added to cooled boiled water makes an effective antiseptic wash that can be used to clean cuts and burns to the skin. Niaouli also heals insect bites and can be used to treat oily skin, spots and acne.
