Calcium

Calcium is a major mineral that plays an essential role in helping to maintain strong bones and teeth and supporting normal blood clotting. It also helps to regulate muscle contractions including that of the cardiac muscle that helps to regulate the heartbeat.

Major minerals and trace minerals are just as essential as one another, but we require the major minerals in a higher amount than the trace minerals.

Milk and other dairy products, nuts, green leafy vegetables including broccoli and cabbage and fish with edible bones such as pilchards and sardines are all good natural sources of calcium. Soya and soya products such as soya milk and tofu are also rich in calcium, as are breads that have been made with calcium fortified flour.
