Magnesium is a major mineral that is responsible for converting the food we eat into energy that we can use. It also helps to support the normal functioning of the parathyroid glands, which in turn produce hormones that ensure that the bones remain healthy. We also require magnesium for normal muscle contractions and blood pressure.
We require the major minerals in a greater amount each day than the trace minerals, but they’re no more important to our health. All major and trace minerals are equally important.
Good natural sources of magnesium include meat, fish, dairy products, green leafy vegetables, brown rice, wholegrain bread and pasta and nuts.
