This week we feature the team at healthy delivery service, Detox Kitchen. We delve deep into the story of the brand, get some top tips for incorporating nutrition into a busy lifestyle, and hear all about their eagerly awaited Ultimate Reset programme.

Tell us the story of Detox Kitchen, how did the brand come about?

Ten years ago, Lily (our founder and CEO) was running her own catering company when a friend, who was feeling exhausted and run down after having a baby, asked her if she could deliver some healthy food to her door. Within weeks her friend felt more energised, clear headed and happier and from there Detox Kitchen was born. Lily and her small team started developing healthy meals, built a website and delivered them in a little smart car to addresses throughout London.

From those early days Detox Kitchen’s mission was sealed, Lily wanted everyone to feel what her friend had, that food can transform the way you feel. Today, a business that started in Lily’s kitchen has grown into one of the leading healthy food brands in the UK.

You’re on a mission to improve people's lives through the power of good food, what does this look like to you?

To us, food isn’t just food. It is a pathway to better energy levels, sharper mental clarity, improved mood, better health and well-being, and to make you feel the best version of yourself.

We hope that our food will inspire people to eat healthier for good, to make better choices and to be conscious of where their food comes from. Essentially, we want to make the healthy option more accessible, to become the easy option. 

You have a few different products / services available, talk us through the options?

Let’s start with our OG product: meal plans, designed to nourish and transform you for long-term health. Whatever your health goal, whether you’re looking to kickstart healthier habits or to maintain a healthy lifestyle, we have something for you. Choose from 6 curated plans and we’ll deliver all the food and drink you need for the day.  We make eating healthy food easy, delicious and enjoyable. We also offer seasonal programmes, including a meal plan between 10-20 days and a collection of premium wellbeing gifts to support your holistic health experience.

Next up, the 3-Day Reset. A three-day cleanse designed to rest and reset your gut. Enjoy three days of delicious, wholesome food and drink, while practicing intermittent fasting to help rid your body of toxins and allow more restful cycles between meals. Not only will this help increase metabolic efficiency and balance energy levels, it will help differentiate between true hunger and habitual hunger. You’ll feel restored and rejuvenated.

And finally, our third and newest product, The Soup Cleanse. A deeper three-day cleanse, also designed to rest and reset your gut. Enjoy three days of nourishing soups, fresh juices and plant based drinks. Like the 3-Day Reset, this will help rid your body of toxins and allow your digestive system a proper break, whilst still absorbing all the essential nutrients you need to thrive.

Nutrition is something central to both of our brands. What are your top tips for incorporating nutrition into a busy lifestyle?

The key is preparation. Spending one day a week, most likely the weekend, prepping your breakfasts and snacks to take on the go and some roast veggies, grains, legumes and sauces to throw together for a quick lunch.

We have a multitude of recipe options on our blog for healthy breakfasts, lunches and quick midweek dinners. Otherwise, if you can’t put aside a day for food prep, it is worth checking out our fresh meal deliveries, that are nutritionally-balanced and perfectly portioned. They are delivered directly to your doorstep before you leave for the day, providing that convenient quick health fix.   

How do you maintain healthy habits in the long run?

When thinking about your diet, you need to find food that works with your body, but that you also love.

Pick 5 of your favourite comfort dishes and put a healthy twist on them, by using only whole, unprocessed foods that avoid inflammatory ingredients.

For example, opt for complex carbohydrates (sweet potato, brown rice, quinoa, farro) instead of gluten, healthy fats (nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocados) instead of dairy, and unrefined sugars (maple syrup, agave nectar, coconut sugar) instead of sugar.

When you have found those dishes that bring you joy as well as health, you will fall in love with this type of food and will start to feel the benefits, which will motivate you even more to keep it up. Maintaining a good diet should lead to increased energy, deeper sleep and a better mood, which in turn will make movement and managing mental health seem more effortless. 

You have a physical store in the Marylebone area, what spots do you frequent?

We do! We have one larger deli in Fitzrovia and a smaller deli in Kingly Court, Soho. We are a big fan of Psycle studios for an energising spinning or reformer class, the Sweaty Betty store in Soho for some premium activewear to get us inspired, as well as excellent customer service, and Skinworks for a moment of self-care and relaxation every so often. All in the neighbourhood! 

Any New Year's resolutions or intentions?

Our resolutions for this year are to slow down, look up, breathe more and find joy in exploring our true self.
